Interior Designer

(Independent Contractor – Field-Based)

About Birdwatch

Birdwatch simplifies life for modern homeowners by coordinating home maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects. We support our members with trusted expertise, clear communication, and thoughtful execution—focusing on long-term relationships rather than transactional property management.

Engagement Overview

Birdwatch engages independent Interior Designers on a per-project basis to provide interior design expertise for residential improvement projects. These engagements may include consultations, design development, material selection guidance, and coordination support to help homeowners move confidently from concept to execution.

The Designer operates as an independent professional, retaining discretion over how services are performed, while delivering agreed-upon design outputs aligned with each project’s scope.

Scope of Services

Depending on the engagement, services may include:

Design Services

  • Conduct interior design consultations for residential projects such as finishes, fixtures, paint, wallpaper, layout refreshes, or renovations

  • Develop practical, execution-ready design recommendations consistent with the agreed project scope and homeowner goals

  • Provide drawings, specifications, or documentation as outlined in the engagement scope

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate design recommendations, selections, and considerations to the homeowner and Birdwatch’s designated point of contact

  • Clarify design intent and specifications for contractors when requested

  • Identify and communicate design-related risks, constraints, or conflicts relevant to project execution

On-Site Support (When Applicable)

  • Participate in site visits as mutually agreed upon per engagement

  • Assess spaces in person and provide professional design input based on observed conditions

Documentation & Close-Out

  • Provide design documentation, selections, and notes in a format reasonably requested by Birdwatch

  • Support design-related clarifications during project close-out as outlined in the engagement

Compensation Structure

  • Compensation is per engagement, based on mutually agreed scope

  • May include:

    • Complimentary initial consultation for Birdwatch members (if applicable)

    • Flat-rate fees per visit or deliverable

    • Additional fees for expanded design development or coordination services

  • Payment is issued per completed engagement or milestone, as agreed in advance

Schedule & Availability

  • The Designer controls their own schedule and availability

  • No minimum hours or exclusivity requirements apply

Independent Contractor Relationship

The Interior Designer is engaged as an independent contractor, not an employee. The Designer:

  • Retains control over the manner and means of performing services

  • May provide services to other clients

  • Is responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, licenses, tools, and business expenses

Nothing in this description shall be construed to create an employment relationship.

Successful Engagement Outcomes

  • Homeowners feel informed and confident in their design decisions

  • Design recommendations translate effectively into execution

  • Contractors receive clear, usable design guidance

  • Projects remain aligned with the agreed scope and documented design expectations
