Engagement Overview
Birdwatch engages independent Interior Designers on a per-project basis to provide interior design expertise for residential improvement projects. These engagements may include consultations, design development, material selection guidance, and coordination support to help homeowners move confidently from concept to execution.
The Designer operates as an independent professional, retaining discretion over how services are performed, while delivering agreed-upon design outputs aligned with each project’s scope.
Scope of Services
Depending on the engagement, services may include:
Design Services
Conduct interior design consultations for residential projects such as finishes, fixtures, paint, wallpaper, layout refreshes, or renovations
Develop practical, execution-ready design recommendations consistent with the agreed project scope and homeowner goals
Provide drawings, specifications, or documentation as outlined in the engagement scope
Collaboration & Communication
Communicate design recommendations, selections, and considerations to the homeowner and Birdwatch’s designated point of contact
Clarify design intent and specifications for contractors when requested
Identify and communicate design-related risks, constraints, or conflicts relevant to project execution
On-Site Support (When Applicable)
Participate in site visits as mutually agreed upon per engagement
Assess spaces in person and provide professional design input based on observed conditions
Documentation & Close-Out
Provide design documentation, selections, and notes in a format reasonably requested by Birdwatch
Support design-related clarifications during project close-out as outlined in the engagement
Compensation Structure
Compensation is per engagement, based on mutually agreed scope

Complimentary initial consultation for Birdwatch members (if applicable)
Flat-rate fees per visit or deliverable
Additional fees for expanded design development or coordination services
Payment is issued per completed engagement or milestone, as agreed in advance
Schedule & Availability
The Designer controls their own schedule and availability
No minimum hours or exclusivity requirements apply
Independent Contractor Relationship
The Interior Designer is engaged as an independent contractor, not an employee. The Designer:
Retains control over the manner and means of performing services
May provide services to other clients
Is responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, licenses, tools, and business expenses
Nothing in this description shall be construed to create an employment relationship.
