About Laptis

Laptis is a fast-growing venture with a mission to streamline access to trusted substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. For the nearly 50 million Americans struggling with SUD, Laptis helps connect them to the right level of care at the right time.

We’re building the data-driven, AI-enabled referral infrastructure of the future to replace today’s fragmented, opaque, and outdated system. Our technology bridges patients, providers, and health systems — ensuring that individuals in crisis are met with clarity, speed, and trusted care pathways.

Incubated at Harvard, backed by premier VC firms, and winner of the university-wide Shark Tank Pitch Competition, Laptis is growing rapidly. We’re already partnering with major hospitals and treatment centers across Massachusetts, with plans to scale nationally.

Position Overview

We are hiring a Founding Software Engineer to work directly with the co-founders and lead the development of our core technology. This is a foundational role where you’ll help architect our product from the ground up, ship real features fast, and influence the technical and product direction of the company. You’ll play a key role in shaping both what we build and how we build it.

Key Responsibilities

Drive our Engineering Discipline

  • Lead the development of our core product, including backend infrastructure, frontend platform, APIs, and integrations with clinical partners.
  • Make key decisions about architecture, security, and scalability to ensure HIPAA compliance and system performance.
  • Translate customer and stakeholder needs into fast, reliable, and user-friendly technical solutions.
  • Build, manage, and document a maintainable codebase across our stack.

Own Cross-Functional Initiatives

  • Work closely with product, design, operations, and clinical teams to ship impactful features fast.
  • Contribute to business strategy, prioritization, and product planning.
  • Serve as a technical voice in executive decisions and help define our technology roadmap.

Requirements

Experience

  • 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience (early stage startup experience preferred).
  • Proficiency with modern frameworks and infrastructure (e.g. React, Python, AWS, MongoDB or equivalents).
  • Experience building production systems from zero-to-one, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, clinical systems, or healthcare data is a plus.
  • At this time, Laptis is not able to provide visa sponsorship or support for immigration-related requirements. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa assistance.

Attributes

  • Strong product and user intuition — you care deeply about the “why” behind what you build.
  • Comfortable operating independently with a bias toward action and iteration.
  • Collaborative, humble, and mission-driven — no task is too small in pursuit of meaningful impact.
  • Able to make thoughtful tradeoffs between speed, scale, and quality.

Who Should Apply

  • Builder at Heart — You love creating new things, solving hard problems, and being hands-on from day one. You’re energized by rapid iteration and learning by doing.
  • Entrepreneurial Operator — You’re excited to work in a fast-paced, ambiguity-rich environment. You thrive when given autonomy and accountability.
  • Mission-Driven Technologist — You want your technical work to drive real-world impact. You’re ready to use your skills to help fix a broken system and support vulnerable populations.

Why Laptis

  • Real Ownership — You’ll join at the ground floor with generous equity and the ability to shape our future.
  • Massive Impact — Your work will directly help hundreds of thousands of people access life-saving care and improve health outcomes at scale.
  • High-Trust Team — You’ll work directly with the co-founders and early team in a fast-paced, no-ego environment.
  • Competitive Compensation — We take care of our team and offer competitive compensation, equity, and benefits.
  • Extremely Fast Growth — We recently closed an oversubscribed pre-seed round from top investors, and our customer demand is surging. We will expand beyond Massachusetts this summer, and we expect to grow as fast as possible – to dozens of states and eventually the entire country – in the coming years.
