About the Role
Overview
Pearl Edison is hiring a Building Science Lead to serve as our in-house technical expert on all things building science and home performance - best-practice system design, installation, and commissioning for home performance projects, including heating and air conditioning, water heating, and weatherization projects of all types. You should be expert in mechanical and electrical design protocols and requirements (Manual J, Manual S, Manual D, and NEC 220.83 standards).
You will be a day-to-day resource to the entire Pearl Edison team - including a team of Auditors (responsible for performing Home Assessments in the field), Advisors (responsible for project scoping), and Delivery Managers (responsible for project delivery) across multiple markets. You’ll also be a key partner to the Pearl Edison Product, Design, and Engineering teams, weighing in on workflow and product design to ensure that we get the building science right. You’ll also be responsible for training the Pearl Edison team - both foundational training upfront and targeted upskilling over time.

Responsibilities
What you’re responsible for
- Provide remote guidance to Auditors when they encounter a challenge during a Home Assessments or QA / QC audit, as needed
- Support General Managers / Advisors in finalizing design load / scope of work / pricing for complex projects, as needed
- Review job documentation for quality
- Provide remote guidance to installing contractor partners’ field technicians, as needed, and evaluate the reasonableness of change order requests
- Train the team - fundamentals up front, targeted upskilling over time
Day-to-day, you will:
- Provide remote guidance to Auditors when they encounter a challenge during a Home Assessments or QA / QC audit, as needed.
- Support General Managers / Advisors in finalizing design load / scope of work / pricing for complex projects, as needed.
- Review job documentation for quality. Our installing contractor partners rely on this job documentation to plan a bid and plan an install - you’ll ensure that the job documentation provides all of the information they’ll need to do this.
- Provide remote guidance to installing contractor partners’ field technicians, as needed, and evaluate the reasonableness of change order requests.
- Provide training to the team!
Qualifications
About You
As Building Science Lead at Pearl Edison:
- You are a world-class expert in Building Science and Home Performance.
- You are a world-class expert in the science and performance of residential buildings - i.e., Building Science, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
- You have experience installing heat pumps.
- You carry mechanical and electrical licenses and relevant BPI and other industry-recognized credentials.
- You are an A+ communicator - in particular, skilled at translating highly technical concepts to non-technical team members.
- You are passionate about the mission of the company.
Compensation
We provide:
- $120-160K base salary
- A competitive early-stage equity package. (If Pearl Edison does well, you’ll do well.)
- A company-funded healthcare allowance (QSEHRA)
Compensation may vary based on multiple individualized factors - particularly, relevant skills, experience, and knowledge.
We are open to fully remote candidates for this role, but would prefer a candidate in one of our home markets - Michigan, Pennsylvania, and other markets to be launched soon. We are a hybrid-remote company headquartered in Detroit, and we get together as a team semi-annually in Michigan.
