Pearl Edison
About Pearl Edison
Company
Pearl Edison is a software-enabled general contractor for complex residential electrification and energy efficiency projects. We operate a turnkey home concierge service for our partners - utilities, governments, green lenders, community organizations, environmental champions, and anyone that wants to make more of these projects happen. We help these partners enforce quality end-to-end and maintain the trust of their customers.
We’re building a game-changing software platform to manage electrification and energy efficiency projects end to end - from lead acquisition and qualification, to in-home data collection and diagnostic testing, to system design and project scoping, to post-install quality assurance. And we’re building a killer operations team - supported by that software platform - to deliver these projects. We’re growing fast, so the team is too.
We exist in service of homeowners. Electrification isn’t easy, even if you’re motivated - it’s a lot of work to figure out the right scope of work, ensure a quality system design, get a fair price, find a qualified installer, and ensure best-practice install and commissioning. We help.
We exist in service of our contractor partners - in particular, contractors who do great work and win on install quality. Customer acquisition is expensive. We send our partners fully contracted, fully designed jobs. We measure our success by their improved profitability.
We exist in service of our partners - in service of their mission to make more electrification projects happen, and their commitment to serving their customers well.
We’re fired up about our work because we have an opportunity to solve kitchen table problems for customers, help great contractors win, and dent climate change - win-win-win - at the same time, at scale.
Leadership
Pearl Edison was founded by Jake Yurek (CEO) and Evan Anderson (Product, Growth). You’ll meet both during the hiring process.
Our team brings diverse expertise, high energy, and a passion for the product we’re building and the problem we’re solving.
About the Role
Overview
Pearl Edison is hiring a Building Science Lead to serve as our in-house technical expert on all things building science and home performance - best-practice system design, installation, and commissioning for home performance projects, including heating and air conditioning, water heating, and weatherization projects of all types. You should be expert in mechanical and electrical design protocols and requirements (Manual J, Manual S, Manual D, and NEC 220.83 standards).
You will be a day-to-day resource to the entire Pearl Edison team - including a team of Auditors (responsible for performing Home Assessments in the field), Advisors (responsible for project scoping), and Delivery Managers (responsible for project delivery) across multiple markets. You’ll also be a key partner to the Pearl Edison Product, Design, and Engineering teams, weighing in on workflow and product design to ensure that we get the building science right. You’ll also be responsible for training the Pearl Edison team - both foundational training upfront and targeted upskilling over time.
This is a senior and critically important role at Pearl Edison. Our company exists to broaden access to your expertise. You will shape operational processes, our software platform, and our culture.
You’ll report to Pearl Edison Co-Founder, Jake.
What you’re responsible for
- Provide remote guidance to Auditors when they encounter a challenge during a Home Assessments or QA / QC audit, as needed
- Support General Managers / Advisors in finalizing design load / scope of work / pricing for complex projects, as needed
- Review job documentation for quality
- Provide remote guidance to installing contractor partners’ field technicians, as needed, and evaluate the reasonableness of change order requests
- Train the team - fundamentals up front, targeted upskilling over time

- Provide remote guidance to Auditors when they encounter a challenge during a Home Assessments or QA / QC audit, as needed.
- Support General Managers / Advisors in finalizing design load / scope of work / pricing for complex projects, as needed.

- Provide remote guidance to installing contractor partners’ field technicians, as needed, and evaluate the reasonableness of change order requests.
- Provide training to the team!
Apart from your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll provide feedback and work with the Product, Design, and Engineering teams to make the software platform better - to support your work and produce better results for the homeowners and contractors we serve. Every team member at Pearl Edison shares this responsibility. We’re a software-enabled service, not software-as-a-service, and we’re only as good as our workflow - the platform we are building to streamline and enforce workflow, and our execution of workflow.
