Role Overview
Pyka has moved into its first 106,000 sqft manufacturing facility, a former Naval Air Station hangar located on Alameda Point. We are seeking a Facilities and EHS Manager to support the facility and our production scale-up. In this critical role, you will manage a wide range of tasks, from routine maintenance and repairs across various trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, safety, security, and aviation systems) to overseeing major construction and renovation projects. You will evaluate work requests, provide solutions, manage contractors, and ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and with a high level of detail and professional communication. This role also requires the development and implementation of a safety program to align our operations with industry standards.
Responsibilities
Evaluate, coordinate, and complete various construction, repair, and renovation projects by prioritizing tasks, collaborating with team members, managing task details, and ensuring tasks are completed on time and within the task budget.
Manages the Facility budget by reporting all purchases for building materials, repair work, fixtures, furniture, vehicle maintenance, and any other facility-related costs.
Maintains working knowledge of materials, systems, and code requirements related to maintenance and construction within our buildings.
Assists with preventive maintenance schedules for a variety of facilities systems, components, and structures, including plumbing, low/ high voltage and line voltage electric systems, fire and safety equipment, sprinkler systems, sensors, IT Systems and related hardware, fans, lights, antennas, and other related electrical equipment.
Operates Pyka vehicles (trucks, lifts, trailers, etc) and is responsible for the general maintenance and safe operation of all Pyka vehicles.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, and hazardous materials regulations.
Conduct EHS duties including routine workplace safety inspections, hazard assessments, compliance audits, incident investigation, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
Maintain all necessary EHS documentation, including OSHA logs, permits, inspections, and safety training records.
Administer employee safety training programs, lead safety committees, and manage the hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal systems (e.g., Li-ion cells and custom chemical mixes).
Oversee and execute emergency response planning, fire prevention, and crisis readiness, and personally respond to facility emergencies to ensure the safety and operational continuity of all facilities and personnel.
Complete all daily facility duties required to maintain cleanliness and a professional appearance.
Qualifications
8+ years of semi-skilled or higher-level experience in trades, building maintenance, or construction
Must be able to provide proof of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
Working knowledge of occupational safety regulations (OSHA/Cal/OSHA).
Demonstrated proficiency in developing and administering EHS training programs, conducting compliance audits, and leading incident investigation/root cause analysis.
Working knowledge of power, hand tools, and heavy equipment
Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled or semi-skilled workers and other trade professionals.
Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision
Must be able to multitask and work in a fast-paced, team-structured environment
Basic computer skills with the ability to effectively communicate within the company's software and email programs
Preferred Qualifications
Specialty trade certificates, degrees, or specialized training in facilities management or project management
Safety certifications
Forklift license
Plumbing, HVAC, and/or electrical knowledge
Compensation & Benefits
$116,000-$156,000 per year base salary + equity. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Salary ranges are subject to change.
