About the Role
We’re looking for a Compensation Manager who can operate at the intersection of corporate and sales compensation, taking the lead on the strategy and execution for base pay, incentive design, benchmarking, and compensation operations. In this role you will partner with HR, Finance, Sales Ops, and business leaders to ensure our compensation programs are fair, competitive, scalable, and aligned with business strategy.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong analytical foundation in core compensation, experience leading sales incentive projects, and a desire to shape high-impact programs in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities
Market Benchmarking: Conduct external market analyses to validate competitiveness of compensation levels and pay mix by role; recommend adjustments based on data and trends.
Job Evaluation: Review and analyze survey data and internal metrics to slot new jobs into appropriate job families and levels.
Compliance: Ensure compensation practices comply with applicable laws and regulations (e.g. FLSA, pay transparency).
Data Management & Communication: Maintain accurate compensation data in HR systems (e.g. job codes, salary structures, bonus info). Standardize and maintain compensation communication materials, templates, and trainings.
Annual Compensation Review: Support the annual broad-based compensation review by preparing data, analysis, and tools that enable managers to make informed, equitable pay decisions.
Stakeholder Management: Serve as a trusted advisor to HR business partners, recruiters, and business leaders; provide clear compensation recommendations, resolve disputes, and influence decisions.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to automate, streamline, and improve compensation programs and processes.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of compensation experience, preferably in SaaS, biotech, life sciences, or other high-growth, performance-driven environments.
Strong knowledge of compensation fundamentals including market benchmarking, job architecture and leveling, sales and broad-based incentive design, and stock-based compensation.
Proven ability to manage complex cross-functional projects with tight deadlines
Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel / Google Sheets knowledge
Clear and confident communicator, with experience working with and influencing HR partners, sales operations, finance, and senior business leadership
Self motivated, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity and making decisions with imperfect data
Illinois Range: $110,000-$150,000
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
