What you’ll do:
Oversee the strategic operations of a cutting-edge, high-volume clinical laboratory to support next-generation sequencing workflow with rapid turnaround times
Deliver regular updates to executive team summarizing laboratory performance, turnaround times, instrument downtime, productivity, and other performance metrics
Contribute to laboratory capacity planning for personnel, capital equipment, and space
Work with inter-departmental team leaders to build efficiencies and streamline processes
Advocate for laboratory processes during development of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and other data systems
Ensure regulatory compliance within the lab, including CAP, CLIA, NYSDOH, GCLP, and OSHA
Monitor laboratory proficiency testing and quality control trends; ensure corrective and preventative actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
Collaborate with assay development team to ensure successful tech transfer of new products to the clinical lab
Possess a deep working knowledge of technical equipment and processes and find efficiencies for improved workflow and performance
Deliver laboratory efficiencies and error-reduction through automation and process engineering
Oversee the laboratory training program to ensure training protocols are sufficient
Provide technical direction, mentoring, and professional guidance to laboratory employees
Attract and retain top talent; create growth opportunities for staff
Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor’s in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science
Must have experience with molecular biology and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
Must have experience supervising others in a CLIA/CAP high-complexity laboratory
A minimum of 7+ years working in a clinical lab is required
Experience with NYSDOH and GCLP regulations is highly desirable
Experience with analytical and clinical validations is highly desirable
Excellent communication skills
Ability to delegate tasks to others
Thrives in a fast-paced environment
Self-driven and works well in an interdisciplinary team with minimal direction
Strong desire to build products that will save lives and change the course of cancer
